We investigate high-speed design techniques that enable realization of a full-rate broadband serializer operating at 40Gb/s using a 0.18µm CMOS process. Bandwidth enhancement techniques, including shunt-peaking and multi-pole band-width enhancement, have been incorporated in the di erent high speed blocks in the serializer. Different inductor structures have been studied and appropriately incorporated for bandwidth enhancement and resonating circuits, consistent with various constraints on speed, quality factor, and chip area. A novel dynamic re-timing circuit capable of clocked 40GHz operation is presented, which reduces the duty-cycle distortion at the serial output. A low-power distributed bu er with unequal characteristic impedances in the gate line and drain line is designed as a 40Gb/s output bu er. A method for generating a differential 40GHz clock using two coupled 20GHz oscillators with a "push-push" topology is also proposed. Harmonic distortion and phase noise of a 40GHz push-push VCO with appropriate buffering of the 20GHz and 40GHz clock signals are studied.
With the explosive growth in demand for wireless services, the next generation wireless networks are expected toprovide solutions to cost-effective, ubiquitous, always-on broadband access. There has been a general consensus that developing network-level solutions that take advantage of the interplay between thephysical-layer and the upper protocol layers would yield significant performance gains. Thus motivated, a common thread of this book is to study physical-layer aware control and optimization in stochastic wireless networks. Specifically, we want to obtain afundamental understanding of the following issues: How can we take advantages of rich diversities such as time/multi-user/multi-channel degrees of freedom in wireless networks? How can we develop distributed algorithms of joint rate control and MAC design for end-to-end QoS provisioning? Are these distributed algorithms stable in the presence of stochastic noisy feedback? A principal objective of this book is to develop systematic frameworks for solving these issues.
This dissertation deals with RFMEMS-reconfigurable periodic structures. Such structures are widely used as phase shifters, tunable filters or tunable impedance tuners. Due to the advancement of micromachining technologies, RFMEMS tunable or switchable capacitors became an attractive way to achieve reconfigurability. As compared to their semiconductor and ferroelectric counterparts, RFMEMS components offer lower loss and higher linearity even at elevated frequencies. The design of RFMEMS circuits involving periodic structures is often based on lumped approximation, whose validity is limited to about one-third of the cut-off frequency of the first passband. To overcome this limitation, a broadband dispersion model of distributed MEMS transmission lines is developed in this thesis. The emphasis is on right-handed periodic structures including the commonly-used shunt capacitive loading as well as series inductive loading and combination of both shunt capacitive and series inductive loading. In addition, RF-MEMS phase shifters and impedance tuners with capacitive and capacitive-inductive tuning are presented.
We are delighted to present the proceedings of the 12th Asia-Paci?c Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS 2009), which was held in Jeju, Korea, during September 23-25, 2009. Recently, various convergences in wired and wireless networks, and conv- gence of telecommunications and broadcastings, are taking place for ubiquitous multimedia service provisioning. For example, broadband IP/MPLS wired n- works are actively converged with IEEE 802.11e wireless LAN, IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN, 3G/4G wireless cellular networks, and direct multimedia bro- cast (DMB) networks. For e?cient support of service provisioning for ubiq- tous multimedia services on the broadband convergencenetworks, well-designed and implemented network operations and management functions with Q- guaranteed tra?c engineering are essential. The converged network will open the way for a new world with emerging new businesses and computing services. The Organizing Committee (OC) selected "Management Enabling the Future Internet for Changing Business and New Computing Services" as the timely theme of APNOMS 2009. Contributions from academia, industry and research institutions met these challengeswith173papersubmissions,fromwhich41high-qualitypapers(23.7% of the submissions) were selected for technical sessions as full papers, and 32 papers were selected as short papers. In addition, we had nine papers in - novation sessions for on-going research.
